We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we fix the guide and say what changed. Mistakes that could have misled a reader are listed at the bottom of this page.
How to report a mistake
Email us at leadingfolks(at)gmail.com, or see our contact page. It helps if you include:
- the address of the page
- the sentence you think is wrong
- a source that shows the right answer, if you have one
If you are under 13, please ask a grown-up to send the report for you. Grown-ups, please do not include a child’s full name, age or school.
What happens next
- We read the passage and the sources it relies on. If they do not settle it, we look for a better source.
- If the guide is wrong, we correct it. We also check the rest of the guide for the same mistake, because a wrong figure is often repeated.
- We change the guide’s “Updated” date.
- If the mistake could have misled a reader, we add it to the list below with the date and what changed.
- If the guide was right, we may still reword it so the evidence is clearer.
Corrections, updates and small fixes
- Correction. A fact, figure, date or name was wrong, a claim had no reliable source, or a picture showed something different from its caption. Listed below.
- Update. A newer discovery or count replaced a figure that was right when we wrote it. Listed below when the change matters to a reader.
- Small fix. Spelling, formatting and broken links. Fixed without a note.
We never quietly change a claim to hide a mistake.

| 11 Sep 2026 | Polar bear facts for kids | Correction. We said 45 kg of blubber weighs about as much as an average ten-year-old. An average ten-year-old weighs about 32 kg. 45 kg is closer to an average 13-year-old. |
| 11 Sep 2026 | Giraffe facts for kids | Correction. We said about 117,000 giraffes remain. That was the 2020 estimate. The 2025 count is about 140,700. |
| 11 Sep 2026 | Gorilla facts for kids | Correction. We said Fatou, at Berlin Zoo, passed Colo’s age in 2020. Colo died in 2017, so Fatou passed her age that year. |
| 11 Sep 2026 | How fast can an owl fly? | Correction. We said owls reach 40 mph when hunting. We could find no study that supports this. The guide now gives speeds that scientists have measured. |
| 11 Sep 2026 | Can polar bears survive in the desert? | Correction. A picture claimed polar bears overheat at 10°C. No source supports this, and a 2022 study found signs of heat stress above 20°C. We removed it, along with an AI-made picture of a polar bear in a desert. |
| 11 Sep 2026 | Stone Age people | Update. A 2025 study dated the mammoth-bone hut at Mezhyrich, Ukraine, to about 18,000 years ago, built from at least 37 mammoths. We had said 15,000 years and 95 mammoths. |
